Vienna 2012

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 22nd Alzheimer Europe Conference which will take place in Vienna this year.

The conference will be held under the forward looking motto "Changing perceptions, practice and policy" and we are counting on your involvement to ensure we provide a platform for truly innovative solutions in the support, care and treatment of people with dementia and their carers.

We believe in the importance of changing perceptions and hope to provide a more nuanced image of dementia, give a voice to people living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia and showcase projects and activities which enhance the quality of people with dementia and their carers.

Changing practice is equally important and we will therefore focus on initiatives promoting early diagnosis and holistic care approaches, on staff training and attitudes and on services putting people with dementia at the centre from diagnosis to the end of life.

Last, but not least, we focus on changing policy and will compare and contrast national dementia strategies and policies, as well as the campaigning and lobbying activities of national associations to make dementia a national and European priority.

We are delighted that this year's conference has received the support of the European Commission under its Public Health Programme and we will herefore highlight a number of promising European initiatives, projects and research networks such as the Joint Programming Initiative on Neurodegeneration, the ALCOVE joint action of national health ministries or the PharmaCog or DECIDE projects.

As always, our conference will be unique in bringing together a range of participants, including people with dementia and their carers, policy makers and civil servants, care and health professionals, academics and researchers, staff and volunteers of Alzheimer associations and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry.

Our call for abstracts is now online and we hope that you will take advantage of this possibility and share your research, projects, initiatives and activities to help us in our ambitious task of changing perceptions, practice and policy.
